What is American music? The answer may surprise you.

AMERI’KANA TV is a docuseries highlighting the voices of the Black and Brown musicians who created and continue to carry the legacy of American music. Focusing on the long river of American music, AMERI’KANA playfully and with curiosity explores the origins, heritages, histories and cultures that carried and birthed the music we know today. 

In conversations flowing between words and music, Enrique Chi and Making Movies engage with legendary musicians from four cultural melting pots in an exploration of the cross-pollinated nature of American music, our “jambalaya DNA.” The documentaries showcase the particularly American alchemy of blues, zydeco, gospel, rock ‘n’ roll, jazz, and Tejano, the electrifying effect of a Cuban rhythm beneath hill country blues, creating something both new and strangely familiar.

Uncovering obscured and forgotten histories, alongside contemporary personal stories, AMERI’KANA inspires us to imagine music as an immigrant across continents and come to know those ancestral roots that unite us in the flow of time.
